Grange Federation

Young Carers

Young Carers are children and young people, up to the age of 18, whose lives are affected by looking after someone.  This may include physical or learning disabilities, long term illness, mental health illness, or drug or alcohol challenges.  This may be a parent, brother, sister or other family member.

At Grange Federation we want Young Carers to be recognised, feel supported and know they have someone to speak to in school.

For more information please take a look at our Young Carers Letter and policy. There is also information on the Young Carers Charter on this page and a link to the Swindon Carers website where you can find further information on Young Carers.

On Monday 23rd July we had a very special whole school assembly where Ann Giles presented our Young Carers with their school award. This is a great achievement and we thank everyone for their support.

18/4/18 - Junior Young Carers Gym dates for this term are 27th April at 12.30pm and 25th May at 12.30pm

18/4/18 - A huge thank you to 'Free Cakes for Young Carers' who put us forward to have some lovely tasty cakes made for our young carers last term. The birthday children thoroughly enjoyed their cakes and celebrating their birthdays together.

The newspaper article below from Swindon Evening Advertiser on Monday 29th Janauary 2018, reports on our fundraising event for Young Carers awareness day, where we raised £292.89 at the Junior school for this charity by having a non-uniform day.  A huge well done to children, parents and staff and more importantly for making people aware of our Young Carers.

Grange Young Carers - News 13/12/17

December has been a really fun month for our YC’s, although short.

Two of our young carers had the opportunity to attend the YC awards at the Marriot hotel. This was a fun afternoon, where we managed to watch some entertainment and had a lovely lunch provided by Swindon young carers themselves.

We also travelled to WHSmiths, where every young carer was given a free book before Christmas.

We would like to thank Ann Giles, the Swindon young carers lead, for the invitations given to us and wish all young carers and persons involved, a very Merry Christmas.

Thank you

Mrs Rutherford
